What are Active and Passive Voices?

Active Voice

In active voice, the subject performs the action. The sentence is direct and clear.

Structure:
Subject + Verb + Object

Example:

  • The chef cooks the meal.
  • She writes a letter.

Passive Voice

In passive voice, the object of the active sentence becomes the subject, and the action is done by someone.

Structure:
Object + to be Verb + Past Participle + by + Subject

Example:

  • The meal is cooked by the chef.
  • A letter is written by her.

Fill in the blanks using the correct form of the verb in active or passive voice.
