What are A and An?

‘A’ and ‘An’ are indefinite articles. They are used before singular countable nouns to talk about one person, place, or thing, but not a specific one.

  • a = used before words starting with a consonant sound
  • an = used before words starting with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u)

Before consonant sounds a car, a book, a teacher —
