Examples of Pronouns and Their Kinds

There are five kinds of pronouns in English grammar. And a pronoun is playing an important rule in grammar. We use the pronoun words to replace the nouns in a sentence. The examples of the pronouns are given below:

1. Personal Pronouns

Personal pronouns refer to specific people or things.

  • I, you, he, she, it, we, they

Sentences:

  • I love reading books.
  • You are very helpful.
  • He is my best friend.
  • She likes to dance.
  • It is raining outside.
  • We are going to the park.
  • They played soccer yesterday.
  • He works hard every day.
  • I enjoy playing video games.
  • We can do it together.

2. Possessive Pronouns

Possessive pronouns show ownership.

  • Mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs

Sentences:

  • This book is mine.
  • Is that pen yours?
  • The car is his.

  • The dog wagged its tail.
  • This toy is ours.
  • The shoes are theirs.
  • The fault is yours, not mine.

3. Demonstrative Pronouns

Demonstrative pronouns point to specific things.

  • This, that, these, those

Sentences:

  • This is my favorite movie.
  • That is a beautiful painting.
  • These are my shoes.
  • Those are old pictures.
  • This is my phone.
  • That looks like fun.
  • These cookies are delicious.
  • Those apples are fresh.
  • This is the answer to your question.

Reflexive pronouns refer back to the subject.

5. Indefinite Pronouns

Indefinite pronouns refer to nonspecific people or things.

  • Someone, anyone, everyone, nobody, something, anything, nothing, everything, few, many

Sentences:

  • Someone knocked on the door.
  • Is anyone home?
  • Everyone is invited to the party.
  • Nobody knew the answer.
  • I need something to write with.
  • Anything is possible if you believe.
  • Nothing can stop us now.
  • Everything went as planned.
  • Only a few people attended the meeting.
